Native to Maine, the official State cat is very different from other domesticated cat breeds.
Maine Coons have a love for water and are known for their dog-like intelligence.
They are not lap cats but instead prefer to follow you around and sit/lay beside you rather than on you.
Maine Coons are also known for their chirps instead of meows!
KefiKattz Maine Coon Cattery specializes in European Bloodlines.
European Maine Coons differ slightly from the softer, American look.
I suppose the first feature is their wild look, or feral as some like to call it, which is usually the attention grabber!
You’ll recognize high, prominent cheekbones and a strong, square muzzle.
They have tall ears with bigger ear tufts (lynx tips), one of my favorite features of the breed!
Their tails are also long and fluffy!! Oh, and let’s not forget, their long hair on their chest that closely resembles a lion’s mane.
The average weight for a Maine Coon male is between 13-22 pounds and for females 9-17 pounds but their weight can vary based on a number of factors.
However, don’t let their wild looks and weight scare you off, Maine Coons are known as “gentle giants”.
